Field Trips

Saturday, October 26, 7:30 AM.  Percha Dam State Park.  Meet at the old K-mart parking lot at the junction of I-25 and I-70 before heading north on I-25 to an area many consider their favorite birding spot.  Diane Moore and Wayne Trees are team leaders.

There are no scheduled field trips  in November. All members are encouraged to visit Bosque del Apache sometime during the month to see all the beautiful birds migrating to the crown jewel of New Mexico birding locations. November 20-23 are the dates of the Festival of the Cranes.

Saturday, December 21   MVAS Christmas Bird Count:  While the meeting for organizing teams is on Wednesday 12/18, the actual bird count is Saturday.  Be sure to know your assignments in advance (OK to call Wayne Treers with questions 575-528-8696).

La Luz (December 14) and Caballo Dam (December 28) Christmas Bird Counts are organized by John Douglas and he is the team leader for both.  Although not considered officially as MVAS Field trips, we do encourage your participation. Data is analyzed and turned in to Audubon exactly as is done in Las Cruces.  If you are interested in participating, John would like you to check with him by the first of December.  They can be more challenging physically than the Las Cruces CBC.
